The Conway Kiwanis Club was honored March 21st by a Resolution passed by the Arkansas House of Representatives. Rep. Mary Bentley presented the Resolution to her peers because 1,000 bookcases have been gifted to children enrolled in the Federal Head Start program. On May 8, the Kiwanis Club will award 50 more personalized bookcases to preschoolers in a ceremony held at The Faulkner County Library. The Bookcase Project was founded in 2005 by author and syndicated columnist Jim Davidson, who is a Kiwanis member. The director of the project is Kiwanian Richard Plotkin. The project is successful because Kiwanis Club members collaborate with Faulkner-Van Buren Regional Library Director John McGraw, Community Action Program for Central Arkansas Executive Director Jennifer Welter and other caring community members. Sustaining Partners of the project are Centennial Bank, Conway Corporation, Nabholz Construction and Virco Mfg. Corporation. Kiwanis members also host an annual fundraising event to support the effort. The Club also appreciates Billy’s Trophies & Awards of Conway which donates a personalized nameplate for each bookcase, and Life 10 Sunday school class at Conway First Baptist Church which donates a starter set of books to each child.
